Mining Matters Episode 7: Critical Mineral Strategy for India

We invite experts from India and abroad to discuss how India’s mining sector can catalyse economic growth and development, ensuring fair and sustainable mining practices for the environment and affected communities.
In the seventh episode of Mining Matters, ‘Critical Mineral Strategy for India’, Tom Moerenhout, Critical Materials Lead at the Center On Global Energy Policy (CGEP) and Professor, School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), Columbia University speaks with Karthik Bansal, Research Associate, CSEP. This discussion focused on strategies that can be adopted by policymakers in India to strengthen the extraction, processing and end-use stages of the critical minerals supply chains. The need for identifying India’s competitive advantages in mineral processing was also highlighted, including its vast untapped potential for R&D in manufacturing. The speaker emphasised the benefits of incorporating industry feedback into policymaking and streamlining Centre-State critical mineral policies.
